Check your employer's Business Facilitation Unit registration
The route depends on it: broadly, majority non-Cypriot ownership or documented foreign investment of at least €200,000. Without registration you are on the ordinary employment route with its labour market test.

Confirm the highly skilled classification before signing

Lodge the application with the Civil Registry and Migration Department
Being in Nicosia means the department is a short drive rather than a day trip. Bring biometrics, criminal record and medical certificates, and the accommodation evidence.

Collect your ARC
The Alien Registration Certificate number identifies you for banking, GESY, tax and social insurance. Nothing else proceeds without it.

Things most newcomers don’t know

Living in the capital removes a whole category of travel from your first year.

The Civil Registry and Migration Department, the Tax Department, the Social Insurance Services and the ministries are all in Nicosia. Residents of Limassol and Paphos make the trip for parts of their paperwork. It is not a reason to move here on its own, but the first year of Cypriot administration is materially less tiresome from Nicosia.

The €2,500 monthly threshold is what unlocks the fast route, not your job title.

Highly skilled classification under the foreign-interest-company policy requires a minimum gross salary of €2,500 a month plus a degree or two years' experience plus a two-year contract. Meeting all three removes the labour market test and gives a three-year permit; missing the salary puts you on a slower and more restrictive process.

Cyprus is not in Schengen, and a Nicosia residence card is not a travel document for Europe.

Cyprus is an EU member state that has not acceded to the Schengen area. Your residence permit gives no free movement into Greece, Italy or Germany, and your nationality's ordinary requirements apply. People plan European travel on the opposite assumption and discover it at the airport.

The buffer zone is a practical fact, not just a historical one.

The Green Line runs through the middle of the city with designated crossing points. Crossing is routine for thousands of people, but it affects motor insurance, mobile roaming, and what you can bring back. If you take a job on one side and look at housing on both, understand the crossing arrangements before signing anything.
