Worth knowing

The annual quota for third-country nationals is small — a few thousand B permits nationwide, split with short-term L permits. Applications genuinely get refused for quota exhaustion late in the year, so timing matters in a way it does not elsewhere.
The priority rule means your employer must document a failed EU/EFTA search. Small firms often cannot or will not do this.
The permit is tied to canton and employer at first; changing either needs authorisation until you have more settled status.
Switzerland has no digital nomad or self-employment-for-foreign-clients route. Remote work for an overseas employer is not a basis for residence.

Worth knowing

'Economic interest' means benefit to Switzerland, not to you. A consultancy serving foreign clients almost never clears it.
Cantons differ markedly in appetite and in what they consider a needed activity. Where you apply is a strategic choice.
