Things most newcomers don’t know

The safety inspection ended and an emissions test is arriving. Both facts are recent.

House Bill 3297 abolished the annual safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles from 1 January 2025, replaced by a $7.50 fee at registration. Separately, Bexar County is being added to the emissions inspection programme in 2026. Anyone relying on advice written before 2025 will get both halves wrong — and a newcomer is exactly the person reading old advice.
