Use EU roaming while you settle
Coming from another EU country, roam-like-at-home means your existing SIM works here at domestic rates. There is no reason to buy at Larnaca or Paphos airport.

Things most newcomers don’t know

Crossing the Green Line takes you outside EU roaming, and the bills are real.

Networks in the area outside the Republic's control are not part of the EU roam-like-at-home regime. Phones near the line can also latch onto them without you crossing. Turning off data roaming before a day trip north — or before spending time near the buffer zone — avoids a category of bill people genuinely do not expect.

Coverage differences here are about mountains, not operators.

All three networks serve Limassol, Nicosia and the highways well. The variation appears in Troodos, where valleys and pine cover create dead spots that are not consistent between operators. If your weekends are in the mountains, that is the question to ask in the shop rather than price.

You need identification to buy a SIM, but not a residence permit.

A passport is enough for prepaid, which means you can get a Cypriot number in your first week. Postpaid contracts need the ARC and usually a local bank account. Plan for prepaid first and switch — trying to sign a contract on arrival simply will not work.
