   Get a Kayseri Kart and learn the tram line

   Buy and load the card at machines, kiosks or in the app; it covers the Kayseray tram and the municipal buses with transfer discounts. The tram is the spine, running across the flat city and linking the centre, the university area and out toward the industrial zone. Because the city has almost no gradient and generous street widths, walking and cycling both work well for eight months of the year — and then decisively do not.

   If you work in the OSB, ask HR about the servis before you buy a car

   Kayseri's organised industrial zone sits on the edge of the city and is not well covered by the ordinary network, but almost every large employer there runs free servis shuttle buses from the residential districts. Using one is completely normal rather than a fallback. Get the route map from HR before you decide where to live, let alone what to drive — people routinely buy a car for a commute a shuttle already covers from the right street.

   Drive on your foreign licence for up to 6 months

   You may drive on a valid home-country licence for up to 6 months from your date of entry. Carry a notarised Turkish translation at all times, or an International Driving Permit — required if the licence isn't in the Latin alphabet and asked for at roadside checks. Once you hold a residence permit, relying on the foreign licence becomes legally risky, so treat the exchange as the next step.

   Exchange your licence at a Kayseri İlçe Nüfus Müdürlüğü

   Book through the national NVİ portal (randevu.nvi.gov.tr, or Alo 199) and attend in person at your district population office — Melikgazi, Kocasinan and Talas each have one. Türkiye's reciprocity agreements cover the EU, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea and many more, so eligible nationalities exchange with NO written or practical exam. Bring the original licence plus notarised translation, residence permit, tax number, a driver health report (sağlık raporu), one biometric photo, blood type and the fee receipt.

   Optional: a car, and what the mountain asks of it in winter

   Cars are expensive because of ÖTV stacked on VAT, and you will need compulsory trafik sigortası, the biennial TÜVTÜRK muayene and an HGS transponder. The Kayseri-specific facts are all seasonal. Winter tyres are legally required on intercity routes in the winter months and genuinely necessary on the plateau; the road up to Tekir and the Erciyes resort is a real mountain road that gets snow, needs chains in bad conditions and does close; and a battery and cooling system that were fine in a temperate country will be tested by −20°C. On the other hand, the region is spectacular and the roads are quiet: Cappadocia is about an hour west.
