Worth knowing

Thresholds increase by 50% for a spouse and 30% per dependent child.
AIMA applies the thresholds in force at your appointment date, not the date you filed — a January minimum-wage rise can move the goalposts mid-process.
AIMA appointment backlogs have been severe; plan around them rather than assuming published timelines.
Portugal was for years sold as the fast route to an EU passport. Lei Orgânica n.º 1/2026 ended that: from 19 May 2026 naturalisation needs 7 years (CPLP and EU nationals) or 10 years (everyone else), only lawful residence on a valid permit counts, and the clock starts when the permit is issued rather than when you filed. If citizenship was the point of the plan, re-do the arithmetic.
