Worth knowing

The work permit is tied to the employer AND the position. Changing jobs is a fresh permit application by the new employer, not a transfer. Your residence permit rests on the work permit, so losing the job puts your residence status in question, not just your income.
Azerbaijan operates a quota on foreign labour set by the Cabinet of Ministers. Exemptions exist — company founders and directors, certain highly-qualified categories, and a list of exempt nationalities and roles — but a mid-level hire competing for a quota slot is a real constraint that does not exist in Armenia or Georgia.
Separate from the permit: if you are staying more than 15 days you must register your place of stay within 15 days of arrival. See the registration route below — it is the single most commonly breached rule in the country.
The land border with Armenia is closed and the two states have no diplomatic relations. An Armenian entry stamp in your passport has historically caused difficulty at Azerbaijani entry; plan regional travel through Georgia and check the current position before you fly.
There is no remote-work or freelance permission attached to any of this. Working remotely for a foreign employer while on a tourist e-visa is not a status Azerbaijani law recognises one way or the other, which is a risk to weigh rather than a green light.

Worth knowing

The legal duty sits on the HOST PARTY — the hotel, landlord or inviting company. Hotels do it automatically and silently, which is exactly why people who move from a hotel into a private flat get caught: nobody tells you the clock restarted and your landlord may not know they are the responsible party.
File it yourself through the State Migration Service e-services, by email to the registration address published by the Service, or in person at an ASAN centre or regional migration department. Do not assume it was done.
Kazakh citizens get 30 days rather than 15 under the bilateral arrangement — do not generalise from a colleague's deadline to your own.
Administrative fines apply for failure to register, and the problem usually surfaces at exit or when you next need any government service.
