The Punjab Rented Premises Act 2009 requires tenancy agreements to be registered and creates dedicated Rent Tribunals presided over by special judges with real execution powers — a materially stronger position than a tenant has in Sindh or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where disputes go to ordinary courts. The protection follows the registration, and registration is the step landlords most often want to skip. Budget the small stamp and registration cost and treat it as non-negotiable. This is the single most valuable thing on this page and it costs almost nothing.

NADRA's Pakistan Origin Card is for foreign nationals of Pakistani descent, including foreign spouses, and NADRA's own statement of its effect covers multiple visa-free entry, indefinite stay, exemption from reporting to police or foreigners' registration offices, the right to buy and hold property anywhere in Pakistan, banking rights and eligibility for employment. A POC holder needs no work visa. NICOP is the different document, for people who are still Pakistani citizens. Central Punjab is where a very large share of the British and Gulf Pakistani diaspora comes from, so the proportion of people arriving in Faisalabad who qualify without knowing it is high.

Until September 2025 Pakistan's third-largest city had no public transport whatsoever. The Punjab government then launched an electric bus service: thirty buses on seven major routes at a flat PKR 20 fare, with free travel for senior citizens, women, students and people with disabilities, and a metro bus project announced alongside it. That is a genuine start and worth using if a route happens to fit your commute. It is not yet a network — Lahore has a metro line and two bus corridors, Multan has a full metrobus, Peshawar has bus rapid transit with feeders — so for now getting around is still a car, a motorbike, ride-hailing or a rickshaw. The practical consequence stands: design the commute into the housing decision, because there is no network to compensate later. Anyone working at the industrial estates north of the city should treat the Sahianwala interchange as the fixed point.

The FBR's Active Taxpayers List is the operative document in Pakistani financial life. Non-filers pay materially higher withholding on property purchases, vehicle registration, dividends and certain banking transactions. Obtaining a National Tax Number does not put you on the list; filing a return by the due date does, and a late filer is admitted only after paying a surcharge. The list is rebuilt weekly, so status lapses. In a city where a lot of people buy vehicles and commercial property, the gap between filer and non-filer rates is worth more than any deduction available.

Punjab's standard sales tax on services is sixteen percent, administered by the Punjab Revenue Authority rather than by the FBR. The Punjab Finance Act 2025 reorganised the schedules so that services are taxable unless specifically listed as tax-free — a switch from the old model where only listed services were caught. If you consult, contract or run any service business here, the question is no longer 'is my service on the list' but 'is it on the exemption list', which is a different and generally worse answer. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's standard rate is fifteen percent on a differently structured Act, so an adviser fluent in one province is not automatically useful in the other.

The provincial government runs a public AQI dashboard covering more than thirty Punjab districts including Faisalabad, with hourly readings, forecasts and health advisories, and it publishes a city ranking that Faisalabad appears in every day. Readings here are usually better than Lahore's and worse than most people expect. Buy HEPA purifiers for the bedrooms and the room you work in during October rather than December, when the price rises and the stock disappears, and get a respiratory plan in place before November if anyone in the household has asthma.
