Jubail Industrial City, about ninety minutes north, is one of the largest planned industrial complexes in the world, and much of its professional workforce lives in the Dammam metro and commutes or rotates.

King Abdulaziz Port, Mawani, Bahri, Agility, Aramex
King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is the Kingdom's principal Gulf-side gateway and the counterweight to Jeddah on the Red Sea, which makes customs, freight forwarding and supply chain a permanent local job market.
Engineering, procurement & construction
Zamil Group, Nesma, Al Fanar, Saipem, Petrofac, Larsen & Toubro's Saudi arm
The EPC and fabrication sector here is enormous and cyclical, tied to Aramco's capital programme — Zamil in particular is a Dammam family group that grew into an international industrial business.
Power, water & desalination
Saudi Electricity Company, SWPC, ACWA Power, Marafiq
The Gulf coast carries much of the Kingdom's desalination and independent power capacity, and Marafiq exists specifically to supply utilities to Jubail and Yanbu — a niche but deep engineering employer.

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran is the Kingdom's most established technical university and feeds directly into the energy sector, with English as the language of instruction.
