Slovakia builds more cars per head of population than any country in the world, and the Bratislava plant sits inside the city boundary — engineering, logistics and supplier roles rather than only assembly.
Shared business services & IT centres

The city's biggest source of English-speaking employment. It also carries an immigration advantage: work for a shared business-service or technology centre and the Foreign Police decides a residence application in 30 days instead of 60.

ESET was founded in Bratislava in 1992 and is still headquartered here; the city's software sector is small but unusually export-heavy for its size.

Every large Slovak bank is Austrian-, Italian- or Belgian-owned and headquartered in Bratislava, which is why so much of the sector's senior recruitment runs through Vienna.

Slovnaft (MOL), Slovenské elektrárne, SPP, Eustream
The Slovnaft refinery at Vlčie hrdlo on the city's eastern edge is one of the largest industrial sites in the country and anchors a chemicals and pipeline cluster.

Ministries, the National Council, embassies, EU agencies and the Slovak civil service
As the capital, Bratislava concentrates the entire national administration in a city of under half a million — the state is a visible employer here in a way it is not in Košice or Žilina.
